From adrenaline-filled mountain-biking adventures to slow afternoons watching the kids explore and play outdoors, the farming families around Kirkcaldy have something to offer anyone visiting or living in the local area. 

13 miles: Loch Leven's Larder, Fife

Loch Leven’s Larder, open since 2005, is found on the Niven's family-run farm, just 25 minutes from Kirkcaldy.

With a restaurant, deli, and retail shop all available to experience, the farm gives visitors a chance to enjoy the beautiful location and to taste their own vegetables produced out in the fields and served in their café and restaurant.

15 miles: Bowbridge Alpacas, Fife

Just 15 miles from Kirkcaldy, near the charming town of St Andrews, Bowbridge Alpacas offer 1 or 2-hour alpaca experiences that include a trek and the farm's very own alpaca obstacle course.

You'll also learn all about the care of alpacas and their fleece and fleece products, all whilst enjoying lots of unique photo opportunities throughout the visit.

16 miles: Lindores, Fife

Lindores is owned and run by Anna and Richard Black, who offer a range of outdoor stays and experiences for cyclists, dog owners, and perhaps most notably, horse owners! 

The extensive equestrian facilities offer riders on camps or luxury horse holiday breaks incredible experiences. With excellent stable facilities and an 85-acre cross country course suitable for a range of abilities, both you and your horse can enjoy a fantastic break away.

New from Lindores is, 'The Hide', an exclusive private hire BBQ experience. If you are on the lookout for the perfect venue for an intimate special occasion, the Hide is a treat for all the senses. 18 miles: Pittormie Fruit Farm, Fife

Enjoy time out in the fresh air on Pittormie Fruit Farm, a family-run farm in the heart of North East, Fife. 

The farm grows a great range of delicious fruits available on a pick-your-own basis, including strawberries, raspberries, tayberries, gooseberries, and more!

22 miles: Little Farmers at Craigies, Edinburgh

If you're looking for a family day out within easy reach of Kirkcaldy, Little Farmers is an adventure park at Craigies Farm, just next door to the Farm Shop. Inside you'll find a farm-inspired play area and under-shelter areas to meet the animals, including the newborn lambs born in the shed during the spring. 

The fun continues outside with a fantastic play area with both sand and water to get the kids interacting with the elements. There is farm-fresh food and excellent coffee available for the grown-ups who can grab a seat and catch up while the kids burn off their energy.

38 miles: Ogilvy Distillery, Angus

Ogilvy Spirits, north of Dundee, is part of a working, family-run farm in the East Sidlaw Hills. Producing beef, cereal and potatoes, visitors are able to discover the inner workings of the farm and the on-site distillery, each Saturday and Sunday afternoon, on one of the farm's tours. 

Definitely a day out for adults (and a lot of fun as a group), you'll learn all about the production of Ogilvy Distillery's spirits and be given a tutored tasting experience as well.

44 miles: Active Kids, Perthshire

Less than an hour from Kirkcaldy, you'll find the Active Kids Adventure Park on Burnside Farm. With everything from go-karts to play forts, Active Kids is all about play and families having a fantastic day out in the countryside. 

As well as the outdoor play areas, there’s also an indoor soft play for wee ones, a coffee shop, and a gift shop. With animal paddocks and plenty of space to explore, this is the perfect farm day out if you're bringing the kids along!

49 miles: Peel Farm, Angus

At Peel Farm, you'll find the Courtyard Shop and the Peel Farm Cafe, both of which have been welcoming visitors for over 40 years. 

Offering a variety of quality Scottish food and drinks, a range of lovely gifts and homeware, and delicious home baking and lunches, Peel Farm is ideally located if your adventures take you north of Kirkcaldy.

55 miles: Argaty Red Kites, Stirlingshire

Slow down and reconnect with nature at the Argaty Red Kites Visitor Centre, in Stirlingshire.

The centre's purpose-built hides offer fantastic views and photo opportunities of red squirrels, woodland birds and the Red Kites which were reintroduced to the farm, on the wider Braes of Doune, by the RSPB and Scottish Natural Heritage. You can also pre-book an off-road buggy tour of the farm if you fancy a more exclusive experience.

56 miles: Comrie Croft, Perthshire

Comrie Croft is a crofting community comprised of several micro-businesses - all passionate about nature, sustainability, and encouraging people to get outdoors, and they're definitely succeeding in getting visitors out on two wheels!

Now an up-and-coming mountain biking destination, there is on-site bike hire available, a mountain bike skills park and pump track and 16km of free hand-built blue, red and black single track trails. Comrie Croft is a fantastic place for visitors of all abilities, and it's just over an hour from Kirkcaldy!
