Getting away for a night or two is sometimes such a luxury in itself, that the distance really doesn't matter. A wee weekend getaway, or a midweek escape really will feel like you've got away from it all when you Go Rural. Being out of the city needn't feel like you're cut off from the rest of the world though, with all the mod-cons at your disposal you choose how much of the outside world to bring with you.

4 miles: The Hideaway Experience

6 miles: Railway Cottage

A warm welcome awaits you at Railway Cottage, a family run self-catering cottage on the Angus/Perthshire border, nestled in the fields of the Strathmore Valley.

The cottage has a spacious open plan kitchen/living area with 3 bedrooms (1 ensuite) and can sleep up to 6 people.  The perfect spot for a private family stay, the cottage is near to an extensive network of old railway tracks which provide family safe bike rides and walks. Well behaved pets are welcome.

Railway Cottage is in a perfect spot for exploring the Angus Glens and has all the home comforts for quiet relaxation afterwards. For rainy days, the cottage has a stash of boardgames and Glamis Castle, Ogilvy Spirits and the Gin Bothy are nearby.

6 miles: St Andrews Country Lodges

If you feel like a family adventure 'across the water' from Dundee, look no further than the breath taking scenery of St Andrews Country Lodges.

12 miles: The Snug at Logie Farm

15 miles: Incheoch Farm Holidays

Incheoch Granary is a beautiful country holiday home on Incheoch Farm near Blairgowrie. It sleeps eight three bedrooms and three bathrooms and there are lots of lovely walks on the doorstep.

The Granary is a charming, subtle conversion of a historic grain store. Furnished to a very high standard and boasting superb countryside views from large picture windows. As well as three bedrooms and three bathrooms, there is a spacious and welcoming living area perfect for spending time with friends and family plus, an adjoining games barn housing the BBQ, outdoor seating, pool table, table tennis and darts. 15 miles: The Rings

The Rings, not far from St Andrews, is a real find for those seeking a fully accessible getaway and the proximity from Dundee makes for a short travel time. 

Accommodation at the Rings includes a fully accessible, 4 star rated holiday cottage that can sleep up to 16 people but can also be divided into self contained apartments for smaller groups. There are ceiling track hoists in three of the ensuite bedrooms leading to wet rooms with baths. The decor takes account of those with sensory impairments and the sound proofed walls ensure a peaceful stay.

There are also six cabins, with stunning views, all built for extra security and safety and all sleeping up to 5 people with wet room and kitchen. Both the cabins and the cottage are fully wheelchair accessible.

16 miles: Sma’ Hame Scottish Holiday Cottages

These warm and inviting (and not so sma'!) rural holiday homes are the perfect place to make the most of the great outdoors; creating memories to treasure with families and friends. 

Sma’ Hame can cope with most sizes of gathering; The Munro & Glennie cottage can be hired as one complete property with five bedrooms and an interconnecting lounge, or rented out separately as a two & three bedroom rental. 17 miles: Bonerbo Farm

21 miles: Cornbunting House

Did you know, the corn bunting is one of the rarest birds in Scotland and one of its last strongholds is the East Neuk of Fife, where there is a remnant population of about 200. 

Corn Bunting House is nestled in an idyllic position on a 400-acre working arable farm and sleeps 10 with five beautifully decorated super-king-size zip-and-link bedrooms (which can be made into twins on request), ample storage space and lovely country views. The bathroom features a free-standing roll-top bath. There's a games room with table tennis and a pool table too.

25 miles: Middleton of Kilry

The Old Farm Bothy at Middleton of Kilry is a cosy hideaway for two in a beautiful scenic spot on a working hill farm at the foot of the Angus Glens.

With a wood burning stove, small garden with panoramic views and easy walks from the door it is an ideal place to switch off and relax with a good book and fresh air. It’s also a great base for walking, cycling, golf, skiing and exploring central Scotland.

A travel cot can be provided for young children on request, and this is a great getaway for a young family; you are free to walk around the farm, see the sheep, deer, birdlife and wildlife and sometimes lambs and ponies.

29 miles: Glenkirlie House Bed & Breakfast

A real country treat, Glenkirlie House B&B is 18th Century built, traditional farmhouse bed and breakfast, in the stunning Angus Glens.

Glenkilrie is a hill farm of 2500 acres with sheep and cows. There are plenty of activities within easy reach: from an abundance of fantastic tracks and trails perfect for walking and cycling and it is in a fantastic area for keen walkers, cyclists and skiers.
