Sit back and observe our working farm as the charm of every season presents an ever changing landscape from naughty lambs skipping about in the fields to the combine bringing the barley in and strawberries ripening for that summer taste!
Boutique Farm Bothies - an all new luxury glamping experience hidden away on our farm in stunning rural Aberdeenshire.
Barley Bothy is more rustic glamour than camping, with its shabby chic upcycled wooden open plan interior, two king sized box beds with crisp white cotton sheets and snuggly woollen Baavet, flushing vintage loo and luxurious roll top bath complete with star gazing window!
Enjoy the experience of managing the wood burning stove for heating and wood burning range for cooking, which has a hot plate a roasting oven and warming drawer. This off grid plus concept provides subtle electric lighting and a charging point for electronic equipment but getting back to nature and spending quality time with loved ones is what a stay at Barley Bothy is all about! The wee vintage Jotul log burner in the sitting area keeps the Barley Bothy so very cosy so bring books to read and topics to discuss. Sit on the veranda with your sketch pad and paint brush to capture the views of the great outdoors. Deer, pheasants, hare, and birds are prolific on our sheep and barley farm. There will be a welcome hamper to get you started on your self catering stay with homebaked bread, homemade Scottish Shortbread, butter, milk, tea coffee and homemade jam from our home grown strawberries!
Enjoy the gorgeous views surrounding the Barley Bothy while you wait for the kettle to boil.
Slow down – Relax – Feel closer to nature – Rejuvenate!
Barley Bothy is a boutique bolthole in a secluded rural location to take a break away from the stresses and strains of everyday life.
The Sheep Shed
Not suitable for children
Watch over the barley fields from the tin trough bath or up at the stars from the woodfired hot tub. Bleating cosy!
The Sheep Shed joins the Barley Bothy in another field where Jane and James grow malting barley. They also breed sheep on the farm, and grow strawberries – you’ll get a taste of their own homemade strawberry jam in your welcome hamper, along with fresh strawberries when in season and some other Scottish treats. Fishing, hiking, and perusing farmers markets are all available and encouraged in the area!
Soak in the private woodfired hot tub under clear starry skies, bathe by candlelight in a tin tub as rain taps on the roof, climb up to bed in the cosy mezzanine, and cook supper on a woodburning stove - a romantic little haven filled with simple pleasures! Inside it's charmingly rustic, with cosy, colourful and upcycled furnishings, and the added bonus of a proper flushing loo. The big woodburning range will keep you warm in even Aberdeenshire winters.
Fill the trough bath when you come back from Highland countryside walks, perhaps up Bennachie, along the Moray coast or somewhere on the famous Malt Whisky Trail. Or jump in the woodfired hot tub - which is even great in the rain! Then enjoy a cup of tea and some stargazing from the mezzanine bed or comfy crow's nest chair as the fire crackles below.
This romantic space is perfect for couples. Barley Bothy is the one to book if you'd like to bring little ones along for the adventure.
The Barley Bothy
Children are welcome. Well behaved pets allowed and will be greeted with their own doggie hamper!
A remote tin bothy with cosy, upcycled interiors, views over barley fields and your own woodfired hot tub
The Barley Bothy joins The Sheep Shed in another field where Jane and James grow malting barley. They also breed sheep on the farm, and grow strawberries – you’ll get a taste of their own homemade strawberry jam in your welcome hamper, along with fresh strawberries when in season and some other Scottish treats.
The bothy’s exterior is traditional, corrugated tin, and a veranda down its full length has an outside bike wash and storage for wet boots when you come back from Highland countryside walks, perhaps up Bennachie, along the Moray coast or somewhere on the famous Malt Whisky Trail. When you return, relax and unwind in the private woodfired hot tub.
Inside, the colourfully decorated, open-plan interior is actually an upcycled chicken shed! Wool insulation, a log burning range cooker and a vintage wood burner have been added though to keep you warm in even Aberdeenshire winters. The two fun and cosy king-size cupboard beds have stargazing windows, as does the bathroom, which comes with a luxurious roll-top bath to soak in as well as a curiously ornate, vintage loo.
Windows on three sides of the living space have views of barley fields, distant wind turbines, and down to the burn behind the bothy - take a sketch pad or a good novel and just get away from it all.
