Ensuring our natural heritage and landscape is preserved is essential and we recognise the importance of looking after the environment, eating local food and supporting local farms.
"The beauty of the coastal landscape and surrounding mountains… the intoxication of clean air… the peaceful sound of waves lapping at the shore interrupted only by the sound of a heron call… walking all day without seeing a soul…”
Some comments received by people who have stayed at Leckmelm, our traditionally run Highland Farm on the shores of Loch Broom.
You can spot hen harriers, golden eagles and a wide range of species of rich grassland plants Our drystone walls are maintained which offer good shelter to stock and insects as well as providing a good perch for the numerous buzzards on the farm. The shelter belts are home to a variety of wildflowers and trees. Two pairs of lesser spotted woodpeckers live there and red squirrels have recently made their home in our pine forest. Leckmelm has achieved the Gold Standard for Environmental Management under the Green Tourism Business Scheme.
If you enjoy the challenge of the outdoors there are numerous Munros and Mountains nearby as well as other activities such as pony trekking, sailing and nature watching.
