This is a family run business and the Carmichael family are never far away from the day to day running of the business. We are very lucky to have such a skilled team on the Estate across a range of areas from deer farming to butchery, cookery to forestry. Our staff are friendly and knowledgeable and will be more than happy to answer any questions that visitors have.
Carmichael Estate is one of Scotland's oldest family farming businesses (establish 1292) nestled in the foot hills of Tinto on the edge of the Southern Uplands between Lanark and Biggar. The modern Estate is owned and managed by the Carmichael family and consists of approximately 2000 acres of mixed arable, hill farm, woodland and ancient parklands.
The Estate runs 16 cosy self catering holiday cottages (Carmichael Country Cottages) which make use of the beautiful 250 year old stone cottages on the Estate. There is an on farm butchery and the multi award winning Carmichael Estate Farm Meats produces a range Estate produce including farmed venison, Lanarkshire Limousin Beef and Texel Lamb. The food miles are low and the quality and provenance high in The Carmichael Farm Shop & Tearoom on the A73 between Lanark and Biggar. There are great walks from the farm shop around the Estate to take in the beauty of this fascinating area of Scotland.
